Beginning this week, we are proud to announce that we are now selling Tu Chocolate in our Caracas Brooklyn location. For now, we are carrying this homemade Venezuelan chocolate in two delicious varieties: milk chocolate with sunflower seeds and cranberries; as well as another with dark chocolate, pecans hazelnut and toffee almonds.
I was lucky enough to speak with Tu Chocolate owners and chocolatiers, Alvaro and Maria. Growing up in Venezuela, they became accustomed to eating delicious Venezuelan chocolate, made from Venezuelan cacao beans. Upon moving to New York City, these chocolate lovers were left unsatisfied, unable to find their beloved Venezuelan cacao-made chocolates. Solution? Create your own chocolate company using Venezuelan cacao.
When asked what makes their Venezuelan cacao beans so unique and delicious, Alvaro explains that the temperature and climate in Venezuela is perfect for creating the smooth, sweet cacao beans. And as Alvaro says, “when you have the best cacao, it’s simple to make the best chocolate.”
Alvaro and Maria constantly experiment with their chocolate, creating new flavors and adding unique ingredients – pulling inspiration wherever they find it. “One night, we were eating Mexican food for dinner and having nachos. Maria had the idea that the salty, blue corn chips might taste great with chocolate.” Their next creation? White chocolate bars with blue corn chips, sea salt & pepper – I’ve had the chance to personally try this combination and it’s DELICIOUS.
